We install fibreglass pools in Hornsby, from the deep established blocks around Normanhurst and Waitara through to the bushland streets of Hornsby Heights and Mount Colah. Tell us about your backyard and we'll show you the shells that will actually fit it.
Hornsby sits higher and greener than most of Sydney, and backyards here spend the summer under tree cover rather than out in the open. That makes a swimming pool the reason the family comes outside, somewhere to cool off after school and on weekends through the long stretch from October to March, without anyone leaving the block.
Hornsby backyards are rarely flat and rarely simple. Most of the shire sits on Hawkesbury sandstone, so the ground can turn from soil to solid rock partway down, and plenty of yards through Hornsby Heights, Westleigh and Berowra fall away toward a bushland gully at the rear.
Our range of pre-made fibreglass shells suits sites like these, because each shell arrives finished and cured and only needs a properly prepared hole to go into. As your local Hornsby pool builder, working right across Northern Sydney, we handle the full installation, from site assessment and council approvals through to handover, so the whole job sits with one team.
We install fibreglass pools for families right across Hornsby Shire, from the streets close to the town centre through Waitara, Asquith and Normanhurst, out to Thornleigh, Westleigh, Hornsby Heights, Mount Colah and Berowra.
Whether you are here, in Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook, Castle Hill or Kellyville, you get the same local knowledge and the same standard of pool installation in every backyard. Because the shells are pre-made, tested and finished before they reach your street, the pool itself is usually in the ground within days of arriving, which counts for a lot on Hornsby sites where the excavation is the slow part.

With one of the widest and deepest fibreglass pool ranges in NSW, there is a shell for most Hornsby backyards, including the awkward ones. Our extensive range runs from small pools and plunge pools that fit a terraced or partly rock-cut yard, through medium-sized and large family pools for the deeper blocks around Normanhurst, Thornleigh and Wahroonga, to lap pools built for swimming and exercise, plus pool and spa combos when you want a spa alongside the main pool. The smallest shells start at 4 metres long and 2 metres wide, so a compact Hornsby yard is rarely the reason a pool will not work.
A spa earns its place in Hornsby, where the higher ground and the tree canopy keep evenings cooler than the rest of Sydney well into spring. Add your choice from our range of colours and finishes and we will help you settle on a shell that suits the space, your budget and the way your family uses the yard. Every shell carries a slip-resistant gel-coat interior that resists algae and staining, which is worth having on a block ringed by gums.
Project Management
Every pool installation has a long list of moving parts, and Hornsby adds a few of its own, from long shared driveways and tree-lined frontages through to sites where the machinery has to work around protected trees. We coordinate the whole project, book the right trades in the right order, and keep you informed from the first conversation to the final handover.
Approvals and Design
Whether your pool sits under a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) or needs a full Development Application (DA) lodged through Hornsby Shire Council, we handle the paperwork and the design documentation. Blocks near the bushland interface often carry bushfire-prone land mapping or tree protection controls that change the pathway, so we check those before anything is lodged rather than after.
Excavation
Much of Hornsby Shire sits on Hawkesbury sandstone and the depth of soil above it changes street to street, so a geotechnical survey early on tells us whether we are digging or breaking rock before the machine arrives. We excavate with accuracy, manage the soil and rock removal, and protect your driveway and garden as we go.
Installation
We organise crane access, which takes real planning around mature gums and overhead power lines, because on most Hornsby sites the shell travels over the house rather than down the side. The shell is placed with precision, then we work through the plumbing, equipment and levelling checks. Every shell is fitted with a hydrostatic pressure relief valve, and we set up drainage around the excavation so groundwater moving through rock after heavy rain has a path away from the pool.
Concreting
A fibreglass pool needs solid surrounds to stay locked in place and feel right underfoot. We handle the concreting around the shell so the pool area is stable, safe and ready for whatever finish you are planning.
Retaining walls
A good share of Hornsby blocks fall away at the rear toward a reserve or a gully, and many of those sites need retaining before a pool will sit level. When that is the case, we build the walls as part of the installation, so the structure is right and nothing is left half finished for another trade.
Handover
Once your pool is ready, we walk you through how everything works, from the filtration system through to water balance and what a bushland block means for your skimmer basket. You will have the knowledge to look after the pool from day one, and our dedicated team is a phone call away if you need a hand.

Penrith Pool Installation FAQs
Find answers to the most common questions you may have.
Most of the Hornsby Shire sits on Hawkesbury sandstone under a shallow soil layer, so some sites dig out normally while others need a rock breaker or a rock saw for part of the depth. A geotechnical survey at the site assessment tells us which one you are dealing with, and we price the excavation on that rather than on an assumption. Rock is also stable ground once it is cut, which works in the pool's favour once the shell is in.
Plenty of Hornsby pools are approved as complying development, which is the faster pathway. It gets ruled out where the site carries particular constraints, and around Hornsby those are usually bushfire-prone land at the bush interface, a heritage listing, or trees protected under council controls sitting near the pool footprint. In those cases, the pool goes to Hornsby Shire Council as a Development Application instead. We work out which pathway applies before anything is lodged and prepare the documentation either way.
Gums drop leaf and bark year round, so a Hornsby pool benefits from a cover and regular basket clearing, and most owners on bushland blocks run a robotic cleaner. The shell itself does not add to the work. A fibreglass interior is non-porous, so the gel-coat gives algae and staining very little to hold onto, and leaf matter lifts out rather than marking the surface.
The smallest shells in our range are 4 metres long and 2 metres wide, and on top of that you need room for coping, a surround and a compliant pool barrier under the Swimming Pools Act 1992, with the pool registered on the NSW Swimming Pool Register once it is in. What usually decides the size in Hornsby is not the yard itself but the rock line, the tree protection zones and where the excavator and crane can reach. We measure all of that at the site assessment and tell you which shells will fit before you settle on one.
